Treatment of nicotine dependence,and for the relief of withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation.
12 years and over:treatment should occupy 3 months. One 15mg patch daily, applied on waking (usually in the morning) and removed 16 hrs later (usually at bedtime).This dose should be continued for 8 weeks. This period should be followed using one 10mg patch daily for 2 weeks and then one 5mg patch daily for a further two weeks. See pack leaflet for further information.
Transdermal delivery system available in a size of 20 square cm, containing per sq cm: Nicotine 0.83mg
Nausea, vomiting or indigestion are possible as are dizziness, headache, decreased saliva and influenza like symptoms. Less frequently palpitations can occur. Nicotine patches can cause local irritation on the site of the patch.
Under 12 years: not to be used. Should not be used by anyone with severe cardiovascular disease or in pregnancy or lactation. NOTE: Nicotine products should not be used concurrently with other nicotine containing products, including cigarettes. Users should always refer to the Patient Information leaflet.
